Tyrone was was born, raised, educated, and is now raising his family in the district. His parents and the community, raised, nurtured and shaped him into the person that he is today. He is a husband, father, and a mentor to young people. Tyrone is a graduate of Southwestern High School; Central Michigan University; the Wayne County Sheriff's Police Academy; the FBI National Academy and the Michigan Political Leadership Program (MPLP). He is also a member of several national police organizations. Tyrone has served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations that are dedicated to improving the quality of life for their targeted populations. Tyrone Carter is a man of ethics and integrity.
Tyrone retired in 2008 as an Executive Lieutenant after twenty-five years with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office. Tyrone’s professional experience extends to, Assistant Director of Campus Police at Wayne County Community College District and the Community Involvement Specialist at Southwestern High School until its closure. Tyrone is also actively involved in developing and mentoring youth in the City of Detroit. For the past ten years, he has taken a group of youth on Black College tours, providing many with their first opportunity to visit a college campus. Since 2015, Tyrone has worked with the AmeriCorps Urban Safety Summer Youth Program at Wayne State University, ensuring that the youth have positive experiences while providing service in Detroit communities. Tyrone currently serves as President of the Original United Citizens of Southwest Detroit, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for its residents. Tyrone has devoted himself to a lifetime of public service and advocacy.
Tyrone is married to Lisa Carter, Police Commissioner for District 6. They have two sons, Tyler and Tyrone II.
